Cove Rangers striker Mitch Megginson could yet reach 50 goals for the season but for him it’s not about self-glory.
It is all about helping his side beating Berwick Rangers over two legs to gain entry to the SPFL.
With last Saturday’s brilliantly taken first half double in the 3-0 victory over East Kilbride, Megginson took his season’s goal tally to 48 but he admitted he will now commit all his energy over the next fortnight to winning the two-legged play-off final against League 2’s bottom club.
Megginson said: “It was good to get a couple of goals to take me on to 48 but it was a great team performance, over the two legs and to a man the boys were different class and I would have given everyone 10 out of 10 for last Saturday’s performance.
“We did what we had to do against East Kilbride who were a very good side.
“It was more about being organised in the two play-off games so far, East Kilbride passed the ball really well so it was all about sticking to our game-plan.
“If you beat the Lowland League champions 5-1 on aggregate it does send out a message but again it will probably be a totally different game when we face Berwick Rangers.
“We don’t know too much about them yet, as up until now we have been concentrating totally on East Kilbride, but the focus has now switched to Berwick Rangers and no doubt we will do our homework and we’ll be well-prepared.”
Looking back at the controversial first half sending off of team-mate, Martin Scott for an alleged stamp on Kilby left-back Bernard Coll, Megginson added: “I didn’t really see the incident. Obviously there was a tackle and Martin sort of fell over the East Kilbride player, whether the linesman saw something different I don’t know.
“I think East Kilbride came up with a plan to get in about us, and we were certainly kicked more than we were down there last week.
“It’s not good to see players get sent off but I think we kept our focus and didn’t lower ourselves to that level, we kept our heads and played some excellent stuff.
“I think if we did get past Berwick, with the squad of players we’ve got I don’t see why we couldn’t do well in League 2, but we need to earn that right in the next two games, and that’s what we’ll focus on.”
