James Wilson has joined Aberdeen on a permanent basis after signing a two-year deal.
The striker, who spent last season on loan at the Dons, was a free agent following his release from Manchester United.
The Dons have beaten off interest from Sunderland and Preston North End to sign the 23-year-old.
Wilson scored the winning goal against Hibernian in the 2-1 victory for the Dons at Easter Road on the final day of last season.
The Englishman is Aberdeen’s seventh signing of the summer.
McInnes said: “I’m delighted to have James back. He is a young player who has had to deal with a lot in a short space of time, but he’s got his whole career ahead of him.
“We feel that he showed glimpses towards the end of last season how effective a player he can be and what a positive impact he can have on the team.
“We want to try and build on that now that he is an Aberdeen player and not a Manchester United player.”
