Aberdeen midfielder Jonny Hayes believes the Dons’ counter-attacking style will suit them perfectly for the challenge of European competition next month.
Hayes and his team-mates will return for pre-season training next week in preparation for the Europa League qualifiers and the former Caley Thistle man is confident the team’s ability to hit quickly on the break will suit them perfectly against continental opposition.
He said: “Football is all about what you do when you have the ball. We played Twente here in pre-season last season and they had 70 per cent possession but we won.
“It was also a warm night like we might get but we played on the counter. You need that especially in Europe.”
Hayes is pleased to see new arrivals already in place at the club in preparation for the early return to action and is looking forward to teaming up again with goalkeeper Scott Brown.
He said: “I was on loan with Scott at Cheltenham six years ago.
“I was there for three months and he was there. He is a really nice lad and hopefully I can help him settle in.”
