Aberdeen captain Russell Anderson is determined to prove his club is no one season wonder.
The Dons veteran capped the best season of his Pittodrie career by signing a new one-year extension to stay at Pittodrie last month.
Following a third place finish and winning the League Cup Anderson is hungry for more success and wants to show Aberdeen can be regular challengers following four disappointing campaigns.
He said: “The bar was raised last season and it is down to the players and coaching staff to not just maintain the standard but try to build on it.
“We achieved a lot last season but we have to do it consistently year in, year out. It cannot be a one-off where we go backwards.”
Anderson and his team-mates are already back training in preparation for their return next week after being given a rigorous training program by head of sport science Graham Kirk.
He said: “The days of coming back overweight or unfit are gone as we all have programs to follow to ensure we hit the ground running in pre-season.
“I’m sure the pre-season will be tailored to take into account the early start but we will come back with that enthusiasm for the new season.”
