Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes is aiming to sign a forward before their Europa League first leg on July 3.
Calvin Zola was released by the Pittodrie side yesterday, while Scott Vernon and Josh Magennis both left the club at the end of last season.
Kris Boyd has been heavily linked with a move to the Dons, although the Reds face competition from Dundee United, Kilmarnock, Rangers and French side Nimes to sign the Scotland international.
The Dons will find out on Monday who they will face in their first round Europa League qualifier and McInnes would be keen to have an additional attacker before the first leg.
He said: “It is not essential but it would be better to be honest. Ideally we would want to.
“You always want to have your signings in for the first game and ours is on July 3.
“If that is not possible, it is not as if we are really struggling for a squad at the moment.
“We have got some good players here but any manager wants to have his squad settled.
“Last season, we had the majority of work done by the time we came back and we were ready for the first game of the season so ideally that would be the case.”
