Defender Brian McLean is on the lookout for a new club after deciding not to extend his stay at Ross County.

The 29-year-old former Northern Ireland international, who joined the Staggies from Dundee United last summer, had the option of extending his time at Dingwall for another season but wants to pursue a fresh challenge.

McLean, who made 26 appearances for County last season, is now looking for a new club.

McLean joins goalkeeper Michael Fraser and in departing Victoria Park this summer. Defenders Ben Gordon and Scott Boyd have signed new one-year extensions, while manager Derek Adams has brought in four new players in attackers Jake Jervis, Liam Boyce, midfielder Joe Cardle and goalkeeper Antonio Reguero.

Meanwhile, former Caley Thistle midfielder Conor Pepper has completed his move to League 1 side Morton and will join his new club for pre-season training this week.

The 20-year-old was freed by Inverness at the end of the season after spending two years in the Highlands.

Ton manager Jim Duffy hopes the former Republic of Ireland under-19 international can make a big impact at Cappielow as the club tried to win promotion back to the Championship.

He said: “He played close to 20 games for Inverness in the Premier League under Terry Butcher but didn’t really play so much under John Hughes.

“I spoke to John and also saw him playing under Terry when I was doing some media work. He’s tenacious, hard-working and is the type whose enthusiasm rubs off on others.

“John was glowing in his references in terms of the player’s attitude and determination. I also spoke to John Robertson, who lives in Inverness and takes in a lot of their games and got a little insight and information from him.

“He is a young player who has a real desire to establish himself, and that’s important.”
