Ross County midfielder Melvin de Leeuw does not know if he will still be a Staggie by the start of the season.
The Dutchman was in the County team beaten 2-1 by Highland League side Wick Academy at Harmsworth Park on Saturday in the Scottish Premiership club’s first pre-season match.
The 26-year-old: “This is my second season with County and I really enjoy living in the Highlands – although I like it here you never know in the world of football. The transfer-window is still open until the first or second of September and I know some clubs are watching me, that is true, but it is nothing to be worried about at this time and I am focused on County and the team.
“If there is some club which wants to take from here I will listen and proceed from there.”
Goals from Richard Macadie (penalty) and Gary Weir secured a memorable victory for Wick with a trialist replying for County and De Leeuw added: “We can do better than this but it is all about getting the minutes in, we have a lot of new players and we have had a hard first week back in training so everyone needs to know each other better, I think you can see that from today.
“When we play more games together it should be much better, we started last season the same way with a defeat against Brora Rangers so that is a little bit disappointing, but we really don’t need to think about the score.
“We will get our fitness levels up over the next two weeks against some other Highland League teams before we go over to Holland to play FC Twente. I think it is good to play against the teams from the Highland League, they are good teams and they want to beat us so we need to beat them.”
