Richard Brittain is ready to lead by example at Ross County this season by showing the way to goal.
The captain netted his third goal in the last two pre-season games in Saturday’s 3-0 win at Elgin City as County cruised to a comfortable victory at Borough Briggs.
Brittain is pleased to be among the goals early in the new campaign and is aiming to be a regular scorer for the club.
He said: “I’ve got three in the last two games which is nice but they count for nothing at this stage of the season.
“You don’t shoot, you don’t score, as the saying goes and any chance from 20 yards out I’m going to have a go and I was delighted to see the ball go in.
“The manager hasn’t said anything to me about scoring more goals, it’s a pressure I’ve put on myself. I’ve struggled through my career to score goals consistently and it’s a part of my game I’m trying to improve. Hopefully, I can contribute more this season.
“We’re getting fitter and stronger with each passing game which is what it’s all about and we have another game to look forward to at Clach on Tuesday.
“In spells in the second half on Saturday we played really well and the challenge now is to try to improve.”
New signings Jordi Balk and Tim Dreesen both impressed after formally signing for the club on Friday and manager Derek Adams is hopeful of adding more new faces to the squad in the near future.
Three trialists featured against City on Saturday and Brittain is pleased with the progress of the team ahead of the new campaign.
He said: “The new lads are settling in well. They’ve been here for a while and the players at the club have been doing their best to help them settle quickly.
“Every season we want to improve. It’s going to be difficult as the other teams are all strengthening their squads, too. It’s going to be a tough league but it’s one we are looking forward to.
“The players who have been here a while need to step up and show the new guys what this club is all about and how we do things here.
“We’re going away to Holland and I am sure once we come back we will be ready to go in the first game of the season.”
