Ross County defender Scott Boyd believes the Staggies squad has been given a fresh impetus by the arrival of new manager Jim McIntyre ahead of today’s
Premiership match against Aberdeen at Pittodrie.
Former Queen of the South manager McIntyre replaced Derek Adams at Victoria Park last week, but suffered defeat in his first game against Motherwell on Saturday.
Boyd is County’s longest-serving player having joined the Dingwall club in 2007, and feels the arrival of the fifth new manager in his time in the Highlands has thrown the competition for starting places wide open.
Boyd said: “The players are all keen to impress the new manager.
“It’s a fresh start for everyone, all the players have a chance to get in the team.
“The management team has come in and seen there are lots of good players here. They’ve been trying to get the confidence up in the players, telling us things will turn around.
“They’re bringing in their own ideas. It’s a bit different to what I’ve been used to because I’ve been here such a long time.
“But it brings a freshness to training, and it gives players who were out of the team the chance to impress the new manager. It’s just given the whole place a lift. Hopefully that will show and we’ll get the points we’re looking for against the Dons.”
County have yet to register a point in the Premiership this season, but Boyd believes getting the elusive first victory will kick-start the Staggies’ campaign.
He said: “Every game in this division is going to be tough because there isn’t much between any of us. Motherwell and Aberdeen are not that far in front of us, and that just shows how tight this league is. Apart from Celtic there’s just such a fine line, teams have got to go on a bit of a run as Hamilton and Dundee have managed to do.
“That’s what we’re all trying to do and once we get on that run it’s about keeping momentum. That’s what we’re trying to build here, taking good performances and turning them into results.”
