McIntyre backs Reckord to make Staggies impact

Ross County manager Jim McIntyre reckons new signing Jamie Reckord has all the attributes to make the left back position his own at Victoria Park.

The Staggies yesterday confirmed the signing of former Wolves defender Reckord on a short-term deal, with the 22 year-old joining midfielders Martin Woods and Terry Dunfield who put pen to paper at Victoria Park last week.

McIntyre was pleased to add Reckord, who has been training with the Dingwall club and will now compete with Graham Carey and Uros Celcer for the left back berth.

McIntyre said: “Jamie has been here for over 10 days now, but picked up a stomach injury in the first week so we kept him another week.

“He is 6ft 1ins, athletic, and can get up and down the pitch – and he’s looking for a chance.

“He was released by Wolves and has league experience on loan at Northampton and Plymouth, so it is not as if he is coming fresh from Wolves reserves. He has game experience.

“I think he will be a very good addition to the squad. It breeds competition in that slot.”

County have secured the international clearance required for Woods, Dunfield and Reckord to play in tomorrow’s Premiership encounter against Celtic, and McIntyre insists they could all feature notwithstanding their lack of match practice.

McIntyre added: “To be fair, the boys haven’t played in a while so, like Lewis Toshney, there’s a certain element of risk there.

“But they are good players and that’s why we’ve signed them.

“Coming into the job, I assessed the squad first and foremost. We felt we needed to strengthen to give us more options.

“We’ve got good players here and I think it’s important, with the position we are in, we try and add to that.

“Nobody will be leaving, not until January. The window’s closed and there’s nowhere for them to go. They are signed and I’m not looking at getting players out of the door.

“It is more about strengthening in an area we feel we need to strengthen, especially midfield – that was a no-brainer.”

Meanwhile, McIntyre is also weighing up a move for former Motherwell right back Paul Quinn, who is currently training with the Staggies.

The Staggies manager added: “He is here on trial, although I’m loathe to call it a trial – I played against Paul and he’s a quality player.

“He has great experience. He’s another who has been down south and again, for whatever reason, has found himself without a club in the window.

“But he has great qualities. We’re just having a look at each other . Paul is having a look at us as much as we’re looking at him.”
