Elgin City manager Barry Wilson has backed attacker Craig Gunn to kick on from last weekend’s double against Forres Mechanics.
Gunn’s two goals made the difference as City turned around a 1-0 deficit to win 3-1 and knock their Moray rivals out of the Scottish Cup last Saturday.
Ahead of today’s League 2 match away to Berwick Rangers, Wilson reckons the 27 year-old will be confident of adding to his five goals this season.
Wilson said: “Craig comes into the game with a lot more confidence, he has been Elgin’s leading-scorer the last five or six seasons, and puts pressure on himself to score goals. When he’s not scoring it can be noticeable, but hopefully he’s got a right good lift from his double.
“Defensively we are still looking reasonably sound as well, which is pleasing.”
City triumphed 3-2 on both occasions they visited Shielfield Park last season, and Wilson believes the long journey to Berwick will not be a factor in his side’s performance.
Wilson said: “We have done it before, so we will certainly not use the journey as an excuse. The effect of the travelling will be seen in the cup final against Brora on Sunday, without a doubt.
“We’ve had Berwick watched a couple of times, as they are the only team we’ve not played this year.”
City are confident defenders Matthew Cooper and Jamie Duff will be fit, however there is a doubt about fellow centre half Marvin Andrews who has a hamstring strain.
