Ross County goalkeeper Mark Brown insists there is no need to panic, despite the Staggies’ dismal start to the season.
Jim McIntyre’s men have taken a four points from their opening 10 matches in Scotland’s top flight and were thumped 5-0 by champions Celtic at Dingwall on Saturday.
They are three points adrift of surprise strugglers Motherwell and St Mirren, who they visit on Saturday, but Brown, pictured below, reckons the side can take heart from their first season in the top flight when they were at the foot of the table at Christmas but ended in the top six.
The Staggies are favourites with the bookmakers to finish the season bottom of the pile but Brown is confident his side can avoid relegation to the Championship.
The 33-year-old said: “In our first season in the Scottish Premiership we went into the January break as the bottom club but we ended up fifth at the end of the season.
“It shows you how things can turn around, but being at the bottom of the league is never a great place to be.
“The teams we thought would be around about us in the league have all started the season particularly well, but we need to keep working and listening to the manager and I’m confident we will start getting the results we are after.
“When teams are at the bottom of the league it is important to pick up points as quickly as possible.
“We just have to learn from the goals we conceded and focus on the positives for the next game.”
The Staggies would have hoped for an upturn in fortunes when McIntyre replaced the sacked Derek Adams last month.
Free agents Martin Woods, Jamie Reckord, Terry Dunfield and Paul Quinn have all been recruited since McIntyre took charge and Brown is convinced the new management team at Victoria Park can turn things around.
He said: “They’ve brought in a freshness. The former manager had been there a while and it is good to get some new ideas on board.
“A lot of new players have came to the club in the time I have been here and it’s hard to keep bringing in players every season and find success.
“We just need to keep working the way the management want us to and I’m sure the points will follow.”
