Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes says there is no cause for concern ahead of tonight’s match against Motherwell.
The Dons were defeated 3-0 by Scottish Premiership leaders Hamilton Accies last Friday and have now conceded nine times in four matches. But McInnes was quick to point out that last week’s loss at New Douglas Park was his side’s first defeat in six games and sees no reason why his players should be lacking confidence.
He said: “We are on a run now of four wins, a draw and a defeat. That level of form would normally get you where you want to be.
“When you manage Aberdeen, there are times when people get carried away when you win a few games and the opposite is true if we are not winning games.
“We have lost one in the last six. We recognise it was a poor performance against Hamilton but they have been beating most teams and we knew it would require a strong performance to defeat them.
“The performance on the night wasn’t there and we deservedly lost the match. But there is no panic. There has to be a sense of reality.”
Dons defenders Russell Anderson and Clark Robertson, meanwhile, have both been dealt setbacks in their bid to return to first team action.
Anderson, who underwent knee surgery at the end of August, has suffered a calf strain, while Robertson’s thigh injury is still troubling the left back.
McInnes, however, does not believe Aberdeen’s recent defensive troubles is solely down to the absence of captain Anderson.
He added: “Any team would miss someone of Russell’s experience but we have not had him for a while now. We might not have him for the next few games.
“We feel as though the answers are here within the team, regardless if Russell is fit or not.
“Of course, we would rather have Russell available. It is too easy to highlight one player or one position. We have lost cheap goals with Russell in the team as well.
“It is important we all take full responsibility for losing goals and work harder to rectify that.”
