The 20-year-old has seven caps for the under-21s but this is his first call up to Gordon Strachan’s senior squad. Paterson is the second player from the second tier of Scottish football to be named in the squad after Rangers midfielder Lewis Macleod was handed his first call-up. Paterson has been called-up for replace Stoke defender Phil Bardsley who has withdrawn with an injury.
