Scottish Cup: Queen of the South v Brora Rangers

Brora Rangers manager Davie Kirkwood believes his players have the firepower to pull off a Scottish Cup shock at Queen of the South today.

With the Doonhamers perched in third place in the Championship, sandwiched between Rangers and Hibs, most people expect the reigning Highland League champions to be no more than cannon fodder for the Dumfries outfit.

But Kirkwood said: “With goalscorers like Steven Mackay, Zander Sutherland, Scott Graham and Andrew Greig in the side, and all of them on fire, we are good going forward. But we also need to make sure that we keep the back door shut.

“It wasn’t the draw we were looking for. We were hoping for one of the top four but we know we have drawn a quality side, currently sitting third in the Championship.

“I am looking forward to the game. I used to enjoy going to Palmerston as a player and I have fond memories of the old ground, although obviously it wasn’t an artificial surface in those days.

“Queen of the South are a very good full-time outfit but as we have shown in the last two pre-season build-ups, when we come up against top-quality opposition from higher leagues we never let ourselves down and if we play like we know we can we won’t be very far away.”

Grant Munro and Stuart Kettlewell will both return for Brora.
