With Ally McCoist tendering his resignation, it would appear his time as Rangers boss is coming to an end, we take a look back at what has been an eventful and successful career to date.

McCoist netted 355 goals for his beloved Gers and 19 for Scotland while he also claimed a number of individual awards as well as his haul of domestic honours with Rangers.

Born

September 24, 1962 in Bellshill, Lanarkshire.

1978

Joined St Johnstone and scored 22 goals in 57 appearances.

1981

Sunderland signed McCoist for £400,000, but he scores just eight goals in 56 games.

1983

Returned to Scotland to join Rangers for £185,000.

1986

Made Scotland debut against Holland.

1989

Helped Rangers to the first of nine consecutive titles and scored twice in a 3-2 League Cup final win against Aberdeen.

1992

Named Scottish Professional Football Association and Scottish Football Writers’ player of the year. Finished Europe’s leading-scorer with 34 league goals.

1993

Again finished Europe’s number one goalscorer with 34 league goals as Rangers won the treble.

1994

Awarded an MBE.

1997

Rangers equalled Celtic’s record of nine titles in a row. McCoist scored twice in 4-3 win against Hearts to claim ninth League Cup winner’s medal of his career.

1998

McCoist scored the last of his 355 Rangers goals in a 2-1 Scottish Cup final defeat by Hearts.

Completed free transfer to Kilmarnock. Won the last of 61 Scotland caps, finishing with 19 goals.

2001

Finished his playing career with a 1-0 win against Celtic as Killie clinched a European place.

2005

Accepted Scotland manager Walter Smith’s invitation to join his coaching staff.

2007

Appointed assistant manager at Rangers as Walter Smith returned for a second spell at Ibrox.

2011

Rangers confirmed McCoist would take over as manager from Smith at the end of the season.

2012

Following liquidation of club, Rangers started afresh in Third Division.

2013

Rangers won Third Division title.

2014

Rangers won the Second Division title. With the club nine points adrift of leaders Hearts in Championship, McCoist tendered his resignation.
