Peterhead are making steady progress in League 1, but that is not enough for midfielder Jamie Redman.
The 26-year-old has played a key role in his club’s solid start to the campaign, with the Blue Toon sixth in the division and seven points off the play-offs.
Jim McInally’s side also has a game in hand on the teams above it after being ordered to replay the 3-2 win against Ayr United by the SPFL for fielding Reece Donaldson when he was suspended.
Despite the setback Redman believes his team, at home to Stranraer today, is capable of so much more.
He said: “We’ve had draws at home to Brechin and Dunfermline, who are a full-time team.
“They were tough games but we’re unbeaten in four matches now which is steady progress.
“The situation with Reece is disappointing as the 3-2 win at Ayr United now counts for nothing, but we’re not despondent.
“We don’t feel we’ve played anywhere near what we’re capable of, but the fact we believe there’s much more to come is a positive.
“League 1 is a tough division and teams don’t get away with off-days. Stranraer won 3-1 at Dunfermline in the Scottish Cup replay in midweek, which is not easy to do, and they’ve beaten us twice this season so we know the size of the task facing us.”
One man who has played a key role in recent weeks is Bryan Gilfillan. The 30-year-old has been partnering Rory McAllister in attack following his return from a hamstring strain.
Redman is delighted the versatile Gilfillan, who has also featured in midfield and at full back in his time at the club, is fully fit.
He said: “Gilly has recovered from injury well and had a big impact in a more advanced position.
“When including the Aberdeenshire Shield game against Banks o’ Dee, he has scored four goals in a month for the club and has shown he can be a handful for the opposition whenever he plays in attack for us.
“He has played a pivotal part lately – either scoring goals or setting them up and with other players at the club starting to chip in with goals of their own now we are carrying more of a threat.”
