Ross County’s Jim McIntyre can thank Motherwell counterpart Kenny Black in his development as a manager.
Black is serving as Well’s caretaker after the resignation of manager Stuart McCall last month.
Black was Airdrie captain when McIntyre arrived at Broomfield as a youngster in 1993, and the Staggies manager has held the former Hearts and Rangers midfielder in high regard ever since.
In the run-up to today’s Fir Park meeting between the sides McIntyre said: “I know Kenny really well. He was my team-mate and my captain at Airdrie. He was also Airdrie manager when I was Dunfermline manager, so we know each other extremely well.
“He’s a fantastic football man and knows the game inside-out. He’s covered every role within the game, being a player, captain, coach and manager, as well as working in the Scotland international set-up.
“He played for big clubs, too, so he’s a man with a wealth of experience – and one of football’s good guys.
“He says it as it is, doesn’t like to play any games, and that’s the way I like to do it as well.”
