Dundee United midfielder Paul Paton could face disciplinary action for allegedly spitting at Aberdeen’s Jonny Hayes.
The Northern Ireland international was booked by referee Crawford Allan for a foul on Hayes in the 78th minute as Aberdeen ran out 2-0 winners at Tannadice on Saturday.
But the 27-year-old could face further action if the alleged spitting incident, which happened following the challenge and was captured on television pictures, is contained within the referee’s report or if SFA compliance officer Tony McGlennan decides to take action.
A spokesman for Aberdeen said the club would not be commenting on the incident before the referee’s report had been submitted.
It was the former Partick Thistle player’s sixth booking of the season and Paton will now serve a one-match ban after crossing over the disciplinary threshold.
He will sit out the Tayside derby against St Johnstone on December 27.
