Derek McInnes has pledged his long-term future to Aberdeen amid speculation he is being lined up to replace Ally McCoist at Rangers.
The Dons manager, who delivered the club’s first trophy in 19 years with success in last season’s League Cup, is among the leading contenders to replace McCoist, who triggered his 12-month notice period last week.
Former Nottingham Forest and Derby County manager Billy Davies is the favourite to replace McCoist at Ibrox, with Stuart McCall and Terry Butcher also among those tipped to fill the post.
McInnes, who spent five years at Ibrox as a player, has also been linked with the job but says he is firmly focused on building on the success he has achieved at Aberdeen.
He said: “I’m really happy here and I think it is unfair. There is still a manager in place at that club, he’s a friend of mine as well.
“I have no desire to leave Aberdeen at the minute. I’m really enjoying myself here and I feel we have work to finish.
“There’s a lot to be said about being happy at your work and I’m extremely happy here.
“The chairman (Stewart Milne) and I speak on a regular basis and we have the same aspirations for the club.
“We have just started something and as good as things are we still feel there is a lot of improvement to come both on and off the pitch.
“I have a really special relationship with him, a lot of respect for him and I love my job here.”
Meanwhile, McInnes praised defender Shay Logan for remaining focused on his football while a disciplinary tribunal and an appeal hearing investigated whether he had been racially abused by Celtic’s Aleksandar Tonev.
The Bulgarian international failed on Tuesday to overturn his seven-match ban for racially abusing Logan at Parkhead in September.
McInnes said: “I am delighted we can draw a line under it and move on now. We have always supported Shay, just as we would support any of our players or employees who had been wronged.
“We can’t comprehend how much pressure Shay has felt under the scrutiny of it all but he has never allowed his performances to dip. That says a lot for him. Getting the full support from everyone at the club was important to him.
“Shay and everyone else just wants to move on and talk about football.”
Midfielder Barry Robson could return for the Dons in tomorrow’s match against Kilmarnock at Pittodrie but Cammy Smith is set to miss out with a calf strain.
