Aberdeen midfielder Jonny Hayes believes his team-mates have a mental strength and resolve that has been built on their journey to the top of the Scottish Premiership table.
The 2-0 win against St Mirren at Paisley on Saturday extended their lead over Celtic to four points, although the Hoops – on their winter break in Gran Canaria – have two games in hand.
Aberdeen’s management and players are becoming adept at straight-batting when talk turns to staying the course.
Hayes joked: “We will see where we are in the last game of the season with five minutes left,” but he admitted confidence could hardly be higher.
“It was just another game, a chance to go four points clear and it was another clean sheet,” said the Irish midfielder.
“We have been getting more assured in our performances and we go into games confident that if we get the first goal we can see the game out and win.
“We go into every game with the mindset we are going to win, no matter who we are playing against. If we go into the game thinking we might not win, then I don’t think we will.”
