Today saw a transfer fall through for an established Scotland player, while another player on the verge of the national squad signed a pre-contract agreement and a player who can’t decide whether or not he wants to play for the country has completed a loan move.
Down south Sunderland signed some goal, meanwhile in Wales, a Celtic flop saw his career flop further.
Gary Mackay-Steven
Dundee United winger Gary Mackay-Steven signed a pre-contract agreement with Celtic this morning and will join the Scottish champions this summer.
It is believed United are looking for £250,000 to all the 24-year-old to leave this month.
Henri Anier
Dundee United’s planning for life post Mackay-Steven was made clear today as they completed the signing of Estonia international Henri Anier.
The former Motherwell man rejected more lucrative offers to join United from German second tier outfit Erzgebirge Aue, where he moved from Fir Park in the summer.
The 24-year-old, who scored nine goals for Motherwell last season, has signed a two-and-a-half year contract and could make his United debut against Inverness on Saturday.
Islam Feruz
Former Celtic youngster Islam Feruz has joined Blackpool on loan until the end of the season.
The Somalia-born striker who grew up in Glasgow and has represented Scotland at under-21 level spent the first part of this season on loan to OFI Crete.
Blackpool boss Lee Clark told the club’s website: “Islam is a very talented player with the potential to excite the fans. He’ll offer something different to us going forward and I’m pleased that Chelsea have allowed us to complete this deal.”
Shaun Maloney
Shaun Maloney’s proposed move from Wigan to Leicester has fallen through after the player failed to agree personal terms.
The Scotland midfielder looked to be heading to the King Power Stadium after the two clubs settled on a £1m fee, the same amount Wigan paid Celtic to secure his services on transfer deadline day in August 2011.
But Maloney will not now be joining the Premier League’s bottom club unless City come in with an improved offer, or another side enters the bidding during the transfer window.
Jo Inge Berget
Cardiff midfielder Jo Inge Berget, who spent the first half of the season on loan at Celtic, has left the Welsh club by mutual consent.
The Norwegian joined from Molde in January 2014 but was unable to secure a regular first team place for the Bluebirds, while he failed to impress at Parkhead.
Jermain Defoe
Sunderland have completed the signing of England striker Jermain Defoe from Toronto FC with Jozy Altidore heading in the opposite direction.
The Black Cats have confirmed that the 32-year-old former Tottenham frontman has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal after completing a swap with United States international Altidore.
Samuel Eto’o
According to reports in Italy, Samuel Eto’o will join Sampdoria on a two-and-a-half year deal.
The striker is expected to undergo a medical on Monday and could play against Inter Milan in the Coppa Italia on Wednesday.
