Peterhead midfielder Jamie Stevenson wants his players to prove they are ready for a promotion push by beating Brechin City at Glebe Park today.
The Blue Toon have taken 10 points out of a possible 12 but sit in sixth position in a bunched League 1.
Peterhead bolstered their squad this week by signing midfielder Kevin Dzierzawski on loan from Queen of the South until the end of the season.
Stevenson reckons the new addition shows Peterhead are serious about reaching the Championship.
He said: “There is no point being in the league if we don’t want to push on and try to finish as high as we possibly can. We don’t want to just aim to consolidate our position, we want to be right up at the top end of the table. We have a really good squad of players and bringing in Nicky Riley, Cammy Kerr and now Kevin has been a big boost.
“There is little more than three months left, so it is important that we kick on and try to collect as many points as possible. If we win our two games in hand we are only three points behind the leaders. I’m sure every team feels the same but there really is all to play for. We are in the right area for this stage of the season to push on.”
However, Stevenson is well aware how difficult it will be for his team against a Brechin side which beat leaders Stranraer 2-0 last weekend.
He added: “We are on a good run of form but I would say Brechin are the form team in the league. We have already beaten them once this season and drawn with them twice and I expect it will be another close game.
“In this league, we all know that anyone can beat anyone on their day. We haven’t been playing that well but we have still been getting results. But we know we have to play well this weekend.”
The snow has cleared from Glebe Park but, with patches of ice still visible on the pitch, an inspection is scheduled to take place at 10am this morning.
