Police searching for a missing footballer have found a body near a well known suicide spot.
An “extensive” search operation was launched to find Forfar Athletic player Jack Syme who was last seen in Perth on Sunday.
This morning officers involved in the search found a body at the foot of Kinnoull Hill, a notorious suicide spot.
The officers found the body around 11am this morning and although the identity has not been confirmed, Mr Syme’s family have been made aware of the discovery.
The 20-year-old defender took to Twitter just three hours before his disappearance, where he posted: “Come tomorrow I’ll not be laughing.”
Upon hearing the news that a body had been found, Forfar Athletic released an official statement, saying: “All involved with Forfar Athletic Football Club are extremely saddened and distressed with the news today of the untimely death of our 20-year-old defender Jack Syme.
“Jack, who hailed from Abernethy, was a regular member of our Under 19 team last season and had in fact been farmed out on a temporary transfer during the first half of this campaign to St Andrews United.
“At this sad and difficult time the thoughts and sympathies of the directors, management, coaching staff and players at Station Park are with Jack’s mother, family and friends.”
