Aberdeen’s Scottish Premiership hopes took a dive this afternoon as they were held to a dire 0-0 draw by Partick Thistle at Pittodrie.
Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes gave 19-year-old attacker Lawrence Shankland his first league start but after a bright opening – the Scotland under-21 international shot over from close range inside the opening two minutes – he struggled to make much of an impact on the match.
His struggles matched those of his team as the Dons were made to toil in midfield and could not build any pressure.
Partick were content to press and harry but substitute Lyle Taylor really should have done when twice played through on goal only to squander his chances.
Try as they might, the Dons were unable to improve after the interval on a hugely frustrating day for the supporters.
