Aberdeen captain Russell Anderson will make a decision about his future in the coming weeks.
The 36-year-old has not played for the Dons first team since sustaining a knee injury in a 1-0 loss at St Johnstone on August 23 last year.
The defender is out of contract at the end of the season and said: “I have put a lot of thought into it. Whether I will be a part of the squad or not will become a lot clearer over the next two or three weeks. I have loved having my time back at the club but I appreciate I have not played a lot this season.
“It will come down to a conversation I have with the manager. It will be a two-way dialogue because that is how these things go. We will just have to wait and see.”
Anderson played for the Dons under-20s side last night in a development league match against Hearts at Peterhead’s Balmoor Stadium.
The Dons, who are eight points adrift of Scottish Premiership leaders Celtic, have four matches remaining this season, starting with a trip to Tannadice to face Dundee United on Saturday.
A 2-1 victory against Caley Thistle on Saturday guaranteed Aberdeen a best league finish for more than 20 years with McInnes’ side now assured of ending the season no worse than second place.
Anderson said it has been difficult to spend so long on the sidelines but remains hopeful he can get back on the pitch before the Dons finish the campaign with a home match against St Johnstone
He added: “I’m fit again now. It has been a really frustrating season, especially as the team have been doing so well. I want to be out the on pitch, contributing, playing some kind of part.
“I’m finally back to the stage where I’m playing again. Hopefully I can get some game time for the first team before the season finishes.”
