Aberdeen have confirmed that seven first team players will be released at the end of the season, while Barry Robson has been offered a new deal.
Joe Shaughnessy, Clark Robertson, Craig Murray, Kieron Gibbons, Jamie Masson and Andrew Driver are all out of contract at the end of the campaign and the club today confirmed the players’ contracts will not be renewed, while Declan McManus has rejected the offer of a new deal and will also leave.
The six released players join Russell Anderson and Nicky Low in leaving. Captain Anderson had already outlined his plans to retire, while midfielder Low has already signed a pre-contract deal with Dundee.
On loan defender Donervorn Daniels will also leave Pittodrie and return to parent club West Brom.
Where should Derek McInnes strengthen his Aberdeen squad? 12 players the Dons could sign this summer…
There will also be a number of changes in the club’s under-20 squad, with Cem Felek, Ritchie Petrie and Michael Jones leaving the club, while team-mate Marcus Campanile is set to move to America on a football scholarship.
A number of other development players have committed their future to the club, with goalkeeper Danny Rogers, who spent the majority of the season on loan at Championship side Dumbarton joining Michael Rose, Lukas Culjak, Robbie Mutch and Craig Storie in signing new deals with the club.
After announcing the squad changes, Dons boss Derek McInnes said: “I wish all the players leaving us success in the future and thank them for their hard work and endeavour while at the club, from the youngest Kieron Gibbons, to Russell, who we know will be remaining with the club in a corporate role.
“Declan has decided his future lies elsewhere and we wish him all the best in his future career. We want to continue to work with players committed to Aberdeen.”
