Adam Rooney netted a last-gasp equaliser for Aberdeen as they avoided a third consecutive defeat with a 1-1 draw at Dundee.
Dundee forward Luka Tankulic profited from some poor Dons defending to open the scoring two minutes before the break.
Derek McInnes’ side pushed for an equaliser during the second half but could find no way past a well-organised Dundee defence until injury time when substitute Rooney scored from close range.
There was nothing at stake in this match for either Aberdeen, who have already secured second spot, or Dundee, who can finish no better than sixth.
Dons manager Derek McInnes took the opportunity to make a raft of changes with Niall McGinn and Mark Reynolds both rested, while Ryan Jack, Willo Flood and Kenny McLean – all of whom were a booking away from suspension – sat out.
David Goodwillie, Lawrence Shankland, Peter Pawlett, Cammy Smith and Donervorn Daniels were given a chance to impress in their absence, while there was a welcome return on the bench for club captain Russell Anderson, who had not featured for the first team since August due to a knee injury.
Seventeen-year-olds Scott Wright and Frank Ross as well as 16-year-old Danny Harvie were also named on the bench.
The Dark Blues went into the match looking to end a five game losing streak and gain some much needed confidence ahead of next week’s end of season derby against Dundee United.
And it was the hosts who made the better start with Greg Stewart almost conjuring up the opening goal when he drove at the Dons defence before curling just wide.
Dundee goalkeeper Kyle Letheren was called into action soon after making a fine double save to deny Pawlett and Smith.
The Dons pressure intensified with defender James McPake making a last-ditch block to thwart captain for the day Jonny Hayes before Goodwillie headed over from a Logan cross.
But it was Dundee who capitalised on some calamitous defending when James McAlister nodded the ball into the path of Tankulic following a mix up between Daniels and Ash Taylor and the German calmly chipped the ball over the advancing Scott Brown and into the net.
A frustrated Shankland made way for Rooney on the hour mark as the dominant Dons pushed for the equaliser their relentless pressure merited.
Nicky Low, who has signed a pre-contract agreement with Dundee, came on in the closing stages for Daniels and debutant Ross replaced Goodwillie.
And there was a dramatic ending as the Dons equalised deep in injury time.
Dons goalkeeper Brown raced forward for a Robson corner but it was Rooney who was on hand to turn the ball into the net from two yards out to the delight of the travelling support.
