Brora’s hopes of gaining promotion to the Scottish Professional Football League were brought to an end with a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Montrose this afternoon.
Brora went into the game holding a 1-0 lead from last weekend’s first leg but Scott Johnston cancelled out the advantage with a 37th minute strike after Joe Malin could only palm clear Ross Campbell’s effort.
The Highland League champions re-established their aggregate lead just two minutes into the second half when Colin Maclean headed home Ally MacDonald’s delivery.
But the game was turned on its head just two minutes later when Brora captain and top scorer Steven Mackay was shown a second yellow card and sent off.
Montrose took full advantage of the extra man with Marvin Andrews heading home in the 76th minute to level the tie and just 60 seconds later Garry Wood secured League Two survival for Montrose, firing home a stunning effort from 35 yards.
