Andrew Considine says Aberdeen’s late fightback against Dundee exemplified the winning mentality that now exists at the Dons.
There was nothing but pride at stake in Saturday’s Scottish Premiership match at Dens Park on Saturday, with the Dons looking set for a third consecutive 1-0 defeat following Luka Tankulic’s first-half strike.
But Adam Rooney came off the bench to slam home his 28th goal of the season and earn the Dons a point deep in injury time.
The result means Aberdeen have surpassed Hearts’ previous record for most points in a season outside Celtic and Rangers, with Derek McInnes’ men now on 75 for the season.
Considine said: “Since the manager came in, we have never lost three games on the bounce, so we didn’t want that to happen.
“I think we would have had our heads ripped off if that was the case, so, thankfully, Adam came up with the goal.
“The boys have been fantastic this year and they have really dug in when the times get tough.
“When there is nothing to play for it is still a real test but there is a pride in pulling on that Aberdeen shirt.
“You have to give 100% whatever the situation. The boys have been superb and have pulled out a result when we needed it.
“To reach 75 points is a great achievement. It would be great to get another three points in our final game of the season, especially as we are at home.
“That would be a great way to end the year we have had.”
Considine accepted the Dons were not at their best against Paul Hartley’s Dark Blues, who had lost five consecutive matches before Saturday’s encounter.
Aberdeen have found the Dundee difficult to overcome this season, having won only one of their five meetings against them this season.
The defender added: “We created three or four very good chances in the first half but Kyle Letheren, the Dundee goalkeeper, pulled off some cracking saves.
“We have struggled against Dundee this year.
“They have been our bogy team but the guys showed a great attitude in the second half.
“There weren’t many chances but, thankfully, Adam Rooney came on and scored a tap-in at the end, which is what he has done all year.”
