Garry Wood helped end Brora Rangers’ dreams of SPFL football last weekend and the forward is planning to do more damage to the Highland League champions as a Formartine United player next season.
Wood, who scored Montrose’s third goal in the 3-1 victory against Brora in the Scottish League 2 play-off at Links Park on Saturday, was one of four signings unveiled by Formartine manager Kris Hunter at North Lodge Park, Pitmedden, yesterday.
Former Caley Thistle, Ross County and Montrose forward Wood along with ex-Deveronvale midfielder Graeme Rodger and former Cove Rangers and Banks o’ Dee wide player, Max Berton joined former Inverurie Locos centre forward Neil Gauld, who recently signed a pre-contract agreement with the Pitmedden side, by putting pen-to-paper on three-year contracts.
Wood, 27, is looking forward to helping United push for promotion next season, saying: “I’m disappointed to be leaving Montrose but I’m delighted that my last goal for Montrose kept them in the Scottish League.
“I am pleased to be joining such an ambitious club as Formartine United. One of the main things which attracted me to them was that United share my ambition of playing in the SPFL.”
Hunter said his summer shopping spree is far from over. “We are still hot on the heels of three or four other top-class Highland League players,” he said.
“Garry showed just how good a player he is with that tremendous strike for Montrose’s late winning goal against Brora Rangers last Saturday, like ourselves he has a burning ambition to win things.
“I haven’t seen many better attacking midfielders than Graeme Rodger in my time in management and Max Berton is only 19 and is quick.”
