Ross County manager Jim McIntyre has no gripes about midfielder Martin Woods’ decision to leave the Staggies and sign for English side Shrewsbury Town.
Woods rejected the offer of an extended contract with County, opting to join the newly-promoted League 1 Shrews on a two-year deal.
After leaving Barnsley, Woods joined County in October, making 28 appearances and scoring twice.
The former Scotland under-21 international had spent his career in England prior to his move to County, and did not move his family to the Highlands.
Moving closer to his family played a major role in the 29-year-old’s decision to sign on at New Meadow, and McIntyre is fully understanding of the former Leeds United and Sunderland player’s decision.
McIntyre said: “It is disappointing, but we totally understand his situation. He enjoyed his time here but wanted to be closer to his young family in England.
“He was fantastic and fitted in very well here, but family considerations are more important in life.
“It wasn’t about money or anything to do with his happiness at Ross County, where he has excelled.”
Woods says the enthusiasm of Shrews manager Micky Mellon was a further factor in him making the move.
Woods added: “The manager a couple of weeks ago and he’s been really quick to get things sorted.
“He told me his plans for the season, and he couldn’t have been more positive about the club.”
