Aberdeen’s 2015/16 season kicks off tonight in Macedonia tonight as the Dons take on KF Shkendija in the club’s first Europa League qualifier.
Derek McInnes and his team have enjoyed pre-season victories over Brechin City and St Johnstone, however, McInnes is well aware of the step up in match sharpness and quality that will be required this evening.
At this stage last year the Dons defeated Latvian minnows Daugava Riga 8-0 on aggregate but McInnes has said tonight’s match will be a “step up” from that and added: “I think it is safe to say they (KF Shkendija) present a bigger challenge than we faced this time last year.
“We have work to do and will need two strong performances to get through the tie.”
The Dons have a full squad to choose from and goalkeeper Danny Ward and defenders Graeme Shinnie and Paul Quinn could all make their competitive debuts for the Dons this evening.
