Peterhead defender Scott Ross has been banned for two matches for spitting at Rangers forward Nicky Law during the Blue Toon’s 3-0 League Cup defeat on Sunday.
After the incident was reported by referee Greg Aitken, former Aberdeen player Ross was cited by compliance officer Tony McGlennan following Sunday’s first round encounter at Ibrox, with the player accepting the offer of a fixed two-match suspension.
Ross will miss Peterhead’s opening League 1 fixture at home to Stenhousemuir on Saturday, with the second match to apply to the next League Cup match Ross is involved in. Peterhead manager Jim McInally insists Ross did not spit directly at Law, but was critical of the 24-year-old’s actions. McInally said: “I looked at the evidence and Scott didn’t spit on the player, he spat in the general direction of the player. We were going to appeal it, but because he spat in the general direction of the player, we didn’t want to make an issue out of it. It’s something out of nothing, really.
“We have warned Scott, as it was a stupid thing to do to even to spit in the direction of the player. We have dealt with it.”
