Celtic are on the verge of completing the signing of Hibs midfielder Scott Allan, subject to the completion of his medical.
The Parkhead club and the Easter Road side yesterday agreed a fee of £275,000 with Dylan McGeouch moving in the opposite direction on a permanent deal and Celtic youngster Liam Henderson also expected to join Hibs on loan.
Allan is currently at Celtic’s Lennoxtown training base, while the final details of the move are agreed with McGeouch and Henderson.
Old Firm rivals Rangers have been chasing Allan throughout the summer and have had three bids rejected for the Hibs midfielder, with the Easter Road side adamant they would not sell to their Championship rivals.
Celtic winger James Forrest spoke to the media today ahead of Celtic’s clash against Caley Thistle tomorrow afternoon and, when asked about Allan’s imminent signing, Forrest seemed excited about the addition and said: “He will be a really good player for Celtic”.
Rangers had bids of £175,000 and then £225,000 both rejected before last week making their third offer, for around £300,000 which was also turned down by Easter Road chiefs, while Allan himself rejected a move to Rotherham at the start of the month.
Allan started his career at Dundee United as a 10-year-old, spending 11 years on Tayside before joining West Brom in 2012. He struggled to break into the Baggies first team but enjoyed two loan spells at Portsmouth, as well as loan periods at Milton Keynes Dons and Birmingham City during his team south of the border.
The attacking midfielder returned to Scottish football with Hibs at the start of last season and enjoyed a stunning campaign, winning the Championship PFA Player of the Year award.
