Ross County suffered their first home defeat of the season, going down 2-1 at home to Premiership leaders Hearts at Victoria Park.
Hearts hit the Staggies with a four-minute double blow in the first-half, netting through Osman Sow and Alim Ozturk.
County pulled a goal back through Liam Boyce’s penalty, but the Jambos held on to maintain their 100% record since their promotion to the top-flight.
County remained unchanged from the side that drew 1-1 against St Johnstone on Tuesday night, meaning defender Chris Robertson remained in the side in place of Scott Boyd, who returned to the bench following a neck injury.
Hearts recalled top scorer Juanma Delgado to their starting line-up, replacing former Queen of the South attacker Gavin Reilly from the side that started Wednesday’s 2-0 win against Motherwell. Midfielder Jamie Walker also returned in place of Billy King.
County got off to a brighter start, with Michael Gardyne forcing an excellent save from Neil Alexander, before Liam Boyce struck a powerful effort straight at the former Scotland goalkeeper moments later.
The Jambos struck against the run of play with an excellent goal on 10 minutes though, with Sow leaving County left back Richard Foster for dead before cutting inside and drilling a low 20-yard effort in off the post, beyond the reach of goalkeeper Scott Fox.
The Staggies were hit for a second goal just four minutes later, when Walker’s corner found Callum Paterson in acres of space, with the full back’s volleyed attempt turned in from close-range by Hearts captain Ozturk.
County grabbed a lifeline on 38 minutes, after Jackson Irvine was pulled down at the far post by Igor Rossi Branco following Rafa De Vita’s free-kick. Referee Bobby Madden pointed to the spot, with Boyce confidently tucking the penalty home past Alexander.
Hearts had a fine chance to regain their two-goal cushion on 55 minutes, when Paterson nodded a free header wide from Sam Nicholson’s free-kick. The visitors missed an even better opportunity, when substitute Gavin Reilly scooped over following Walker’s cut-back.
At the other end, Boyce came close to netting his second when his overhead kick from Marcus Fraser’s cross whistled inches wide. On 85 minutes a superb cross by Jamie Reckord narrowly evaded the head of Gardyne, when any contact would have brought the equaliser. However, the Jambos held on to take all three points from the Highlands.
