Ross County captain Andrew Davies believes manager Jim McIntyre’s meticulous approach will ensure the Staggies have a successful season.
County thumped struggling Kilmarnock 4-0 at Rugby Park on Saturday with all the goals coming in the opening 35 minutes.
A Liam Boyce double, a debut goal from Jonathan Franks and a volley from Davies gave the Staggies an unassailable lead against a dismal Kilmarnock.
Davies, a summer recruit from Bradford City, has been hugely impressed by McIntyre’s managerial style and the Englishman said: “He knows everything about the opposition and he makes sure every single one of us knows our jobs.
“He’s very specific. He’s got videos on each player, what’s good and bad about them, and I think that’s fantastic the way he gives us that before we go into the games.
“He’s literally giving us that news 15 minutes before we go out, just to refresh our minds.
“I’ve never had that from a manager and I’ve worked under Steve McClaren and Gareth Southgate.
“I think it’s refreshing when he does that because we know exactly what we need to do.
“It’s something I’ve not been used to, but we know the strengths and weaknesses of the player we’re playing against.
“Training is fantastic. We train for an hour and a half each day but it’s so intense.
“He doesn’t over-work us, he just wants it short and sharp and he’s very happy.
“Even the set play that I scored from, we had worked on it all week on the training ground and he was convinced it would work. We believed him and it did.”
Davies admitted the players were slightly disappointed they had only managed to score four times during a first half of complete domination.
He added: “We came with a plan to get in among them.
“We knew they’d had a couple of dodgy results and we did everything the manager wanted us to do. It worked a treat.
“We were a little bit disappointed going in 4-0 at half-time because we could have scored more goals in the first half.
“The manager said just to stay focused and keep a clean sheet.
“That was the biggest thing he wanted to do and we did both, so he was very happy.”
Craig Curran, Boyce and Franks all came off with injuries on Saturday but manager McIntyre, whose side face Ayr United in the League Cup tomorrow, says none of them are overly serious.
He added: “Curran got five stitches in the corner of his eye so that is a wee character wound for him.
“There are a couple of dead legs and a few tired bodies among the players but we will get rested up and ready to go again.”
