Ross County goalkeeper Scott Fox was left deflated after Motherwell struck late to earn a 1-1 Premiership draw at Fir Park on Saturday.
The Staggies took the lead through Michael Gardyne’s neat finish after 33 minutes and looked set to see the game out to record their first win at Fir Park until Louis Moult netted a stoppage-time leveller.
The goal denied County their third straight Premiership victory and Fox rued a late defensive switch off that prevented the Dingwall outfit taking all three points.
Fox said: “It’s disappointing when a team scores so late. I thought we had held them out, so it felt like a defeat.
“It was two points lost.
“We’re going away gutted we’ve not won the game, it just shows how far we’ve come as a team.
“We were solid at the back but they changed it a bit and brought some more pace on.
“It was not like us as we are usually organised. It’s something we’ll look at this week to find out what’s happened. It’s not in our character. Someone should not have been in that position so easily for the goal.”
Despite the disappointment at conceding so late on, the point moved County up a place into fourth ahead of Dundee on goal difference.
Fox is reticent about discussing the Staggies’ prospects of a top-six finish at this early stage of the season.
He said: “We have started well but we’ve not set any targets just yet. We’ll wait until after Christmas time and take it from there.
“The boys have been brilliant so far – I hope it continues.”
Fox joined the Staggies from Partick Thistle in the summer and, after playing just 24 matches for the Jags last season, the 28-year-old is looking to make the most of the opportunity handed to him by the Dingwall club.
Fox added: “I’ve loved it so far.
“People can maybe see from the way I’ve been playing, it’s something new and exciting. I’m enjoying the games and long may it continue.
“It also helps when the team’s been doing so well.
“It’s a good squad with two in every position.
“If I don’t perform, we’ve all got that one opportunity otherwise we’re out.
“There’s been good competition and the boys have been brilliant.
“It’s a long season and there will be changes. It’s my position just now and, hopefully, I can keep it.”
