Peterhead manager Jim McInally believes his side’s incredible run of form in August has pushed the expectation levels around Balmoor through the roof.
The Blue Toon have gone three matches without a win following last weekend’s 2-2 draw against 10-man Cowdenbeath.
Last month Peterhead defeated League 1 favourites Dunfermline, knocked Falkirk out of the Petrofac Training Cup with a 5-3 win and thrashed Stranraer 4-0.
McInally said: “A lot of people have asked me if I was disappointed to only take a point from Cowdenbeath, which has surprised me. They were in the Championship last year.
“I feel as though the expectation levels have gone ridiculously high. We played well last week but it has been overlooked because the opposition scored a late equaliser.
“If we can keep playing like that then we will win a lot of games.”
The Balmoor men will start as firm favourites this afternoon when they host a Brechin side that has lost all six matches this season.
But McInally says Darren Dods’ side should not be underestimated.
He said: “I have been surprised by Brechin’s start to the season but it won’t last. They will get a break sooner rather than later but we need to make sure it is not against us.
“For people to think we just need to turn up to beat Brechin is ridiculous. They are a team that is regularly in the top four.
“We need to make sure we play like we did last week but defend better. If we do that then we will have a chance of beating any team.”
New signing Simon Ferry, the former Dundee, Portsmouth and Swindon midfielder, is expected to make his debut this weekend.
McInally added: “Simon has already shown us in training this week how good he is.”
