Ross County defender Chris Robertson hailed his side’s resilience after illness affected the squad as the Staggies dug deep to claim all three points against Partick Thistle on Saturday.
Liam Boyce’s 18th-minute header was enough to give the Staggies victory in a hard-fought win against the struggling Jags at Victoria Park.
The result came despite several players suffering the effects of a virus which swept through the dressing-room last week and Robertson saluted his team-mates’ resolve.
He said: “That’s what you want – three points at the end of a tough week.
“I’m delighted with the performance. It was a lot different from last weekend, obviously, when we dropped two points at the end of the game.
“This week we held on and got the clean sheet, so it was a great result.
“I’ve got a little bit of a cold. There were a few things going on this week – a few injuries, a few tummy upsets, so we’ve done really well to get the points.
“They’re a tough side down the bottom of the table, so they want the points as much as us. I’m glad we earned them.”
The victory was especially pleasing for the County backline after the loss of a late equaliser at Motherwell last weekend.
Robertson said: “If you’re going to win football games you have to get clean sheets. It makes it a lot easier if we score more than one but we needed to hold out and we’ve done the job today.
“Hopefully, we’ll carry on doing that.
“Everyone is working hard. If everyone is working hard and doing their own jobs, we’re moving in the right direction.
“We’ll get more points on the board pretty quickly if we keep doing that.
“Everyone is positive, working hard for each other, which is what you want as a team.”
Saturday’s win keeps County fourth in the Premiership but Robertson played down talk of a top-six place this season, insisting the focus is on tomorrow’s League Cup tie against Championship side Falkirk at Victoria Park.
He said: “We’re just concentrating on the next game. The manager is keeping us grounded and keeps focusing us on the next game.
“The next game is a cup game, so it is a little break from the league. Let’s start a little cup run and keep that going.”
