Ross County are hoping to tie up a short-term deal with English goalkeeper James Severn in time for tonight’s Premiership match against Aberdeen.
Staggies manager Jim McIntyre has been on the hunt for short-term goalkeeping cover since first choice Scott Fox damaged ankle ligaments in the 2-1 defeat against Caley Thistle earlier this month.
Severn began his career with Derby County before moving to Scunthorpe United in 2012, with loan spells at Tamworth and Alfreton Town during his three-year spell with the Iron. He has also been capped for England at under-17, under-19 and under-20 levels.
The 24-year-old is available having left Scunthorpe in the summer and has spent time with English Conference North side Worcester City this season.
On-loan Leyton Orient goalkeeper Gary Woods will be between the sticks for tonight’s encounter with the Dons but McIntyre is hopeful of finalising a deal to allow Severn to take his place on the bench.
County are also waiting to receive international clearance required for new signing Alex Schalk to be involved in the squad, following the Dutch attacker’s arrival last week.
Aberdeen come into the match as Premiership leaders but Derek McInnes’ Reds have suffered three defeats on the bounce – the latest being a crushing 5-1 home defeat by St Johnstone.
McIntyre knows the Reds will be eager to return to winning ways and said: “The bubble has not burst, not at all. What’s highlighted is that if you’re not at it and you switch off for a second, you can be punished – in any game, no matter who you are playing against.
“We have seen that this season even with Celtic.
“It was a fabulous start to go eight wins on the trot at the start of the season – unbelievable – but we just have to concentrate on ourselves.
“We’ve got good players here, players who can hurt them, and we have to make sure we defend properly because we know we’ll be tested. Aberdeen have a lot of pace and hold a real threat at set-plays. We’ve got to deal with that, stand up to that and then put our game on to them.
“As much as they’re a threat, so are we. We have to make sure we get into areas where we can hurt them.”
