Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes insists his players’ confidence has not been dented by the club’s recent poor results.
The Dons are on a four-game losing streak, a stark contrast to the club record eight-match winning run they put together to lead the Scottish Premiership and help their manager win the league’s manager-of-the-month award for August and September.
But Friday’s 2-0 loss at Ross County, coupled with Celtic’s 1-0 win at Motherwell, means Aberdeen have dropped to second in the Premiership, two points adrift of the champions.
McInnes is frustrated by the recent sequence of results but remains confident his side will bounce back.
He said: “If we keep working as hard as we did at Ross County the players are good enough to find better form. We’re all good enough to start finding ways to win again.
“We’re in October and we are doing a lot of things right. The recent results haven’t been good enough and we know we have to put that right.
“The sequence of results has been unusual but across the 11 games it has been a decent return for us.
“We work well together, we’ve got a good bond between the players and the staff and we all want the same thing which is to get back to winning ways.”
It is a frustrating time at Pittodrie after the recent run of results and McInnes believes luck has deserted his players as they try to bring their losing run to an end.
Two mistakes led to two goals for County forward Brian Graham at Victoria Park, while Niall McGinn saw his effort come back off the post as the Dons chased a goal to haul themselves back into the game.
McInnes said: “The inconsistency has been baffling but I know we are a good team.
“Possibly little things were going for us in the early part of the season which haven’t gone for us recently like the ball hitting the post, shots being cleared off the line or tackles breaking to opposing players.
“They are minor breaks but added together they’ve not helped us but we can’t use it as an excuse.
“The players want to fix this and win games again and so do we and I’m confident we will.
“We want to get back to winning ways as quickly as possible as no one is enjoying this run we are on.”
