Ross County forward Liam Boyce will be happy to upset his friends and family if it means defeating Celtic in the Premiership tomorrow.
Belfast-born Boyce grew up supporting the Hoops, while his family and numerous friends remain keen followers of the Parkhead club.
But County’s leading scorer is intent on adding to his current tally of 11 – even if he risks the prospect of not hearing from his parents any time soon by netting the winner in Dingwall.
Boyce said: “My family are big Celtic supporters so they get excited about it and it’s rubbing off on me as well.
“My mother and father, brothers and sisters follow Celtic – the whole neighbourhood in fact.
“If I score against them, I don’t think I’ll be very popular back home.
“I’m from the Falls Road and grew up a Celtic supporter until I stopped following teams and focused on myself and my own career.
“But right from a young age I was Celtic, as were my family and most of my friends. Henrik Larsson was my hero by a mile.
“When I was younger, I felt I had the ability to go far, but I never really knew if I’d be playing at places such as Parkhead. It’s incredible.
“Now I’ve got to that stage, I want to be challenging them and see if I can help my team beat them. Hopefully we’ll do that tomorrow.”
Boyce was left on the bench by manager Jim McIntyre, who picked Craig Curran when the sides last met on the opening day of the season, with Celtic running out 2-0 winners.
The Northern Ireland international is optimistic he can hurt the Glasgow side should be selected, and he added: “Craig can get about the pitch better than I can. The manager went with one up front and saw that as the right gameplan.
“Although we lost two goals early on we did well in the second half down there. That gives us a bit of confidence going into this game.
“It’s the manager’s decision what kind of attack he goes for and we get right behind whatever he decides. I understood his reasoning.
“Defensively, Celtic can pass the ball out from the back and Craig is the type who can put a bit more pressure on them.
“We’ll work on the tactics, but hopefully I’ll get the nod and I’m confident I can cause Celtic problems.”
