Ross County midfielder Tony Dingwall was frustrated by his team’s lack of a cutting edge in yesterday’s 4-1 defeat to Premiership champions Celtic.
The Hoops ran out comfortable winners thanks to goals from Tom Rogic, a Leigh Griffiths double and Nir Bitton’s late header, with Dingwall notching a second-half consolation.
County spurned several excellent opportunities at key stages, with Liam Boyce heading wide when it was still goalless, while substitute Alex Schalk’s header was tipped over by Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon.
Dingwall, pictured below, felt his side could have made a better game of it had they been more clinical in front of goal.
He said: “Personally it was all right, but when the result does not go our way it puts a bit of a downer on it.
“We had chances in the game at crucial times, but if we miss those chances against Celtic it’s always going to end up like that.
“We did not think we’d create as many chances as that as we were set up mainly to try to limit their chances.
“Craig Gordon made a brilliant save from Alex’s header, and if the game had gone to 3-2 we would have had a chance, but their fourth goal killed the game.”
Dingwall has enjoyed a run in the side in recent weeks, with yesterday’s goal coming in his third consecutive start after he struggled to break into the side at the beginning of the campaign.
The 21-year-old is determined to keep his place in the side to make sure fellow wide players Jonathan Franks and Rafa De Vita remain on the bench, and added: “When I’m not in the team it’s frustrating, but hopefully I can take my chance now and get a good run of games.
“The manager told me I had been doing well in training and looking sharp, and said I needed to keep doing what I’m doing and then I would get my chance. It’s up to me to take it.
“My job as a wide player is to create chances for others, and hopefully chip in with the odd goal.
“There are a lot of good players in the squad this season, so if I don’t perform they will take my place in the team.”
