Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes has hailed the contribution of his three Irishmen in helping the Dons end the wait for a Premiership victory.
Adam Rooney and Jonny Hayes were both on target as the Dons defeated bottom of the league Dundee United 2-0 to halt a six-game winless run on Saturday.
But Dons manager McInnes felt former Arab Willo Flood, starting his first match since being substituted at half-time in last month’s 2-0 defeat at Ross County, was also instrumental in getting Aberdeen back to winning ways.
He said: “I thought Willo was magnificent from the first whistle.
“Everyone would have recognised how important he was in winning momentum and turning the ball over. He was energetic and didn’t let the Dundee United players settle on the ball.
“He has struggled with injuries this season and has been in and out of the team.
“But if he is fit and playing well then he is so vital to me.
“Adam is another player who has really found his form and is in a really good place at the moment.
“He comes alive in the six-yard box and always gets himself into the right positions to score.”
Flood called on Republic of Ireland manager Martin O’Neill to consider teammate Hayes for international selection following another excellent display against Dundee United.
His manager McInnes also believes the 28-year-old must be getting close to a first call to the senior squad.
He said: “I don’t know too much on where the Republic of Ireland are in terms of left-sided midfielders, but in my time at the club Jonny has been an ever-present in a team that has been doing all right.
“He has shown a real consistency over the past couple of seasons. We saw what he can do against Dundee United and against Celtic the week before.
“After the Celtic game he was feeling down, but I told him that if he can do that to Mikael Lustig he can do that to any full back in the league.
“He has got pace to burn, he is confident and he can be a real handful.
“He has worked hard to get good performances although scoring goals is possibly an area he can work on.
“In our system there is a demand on the wide players to contribute goals. If he can get among the goals then you never know, but I certainly don’t think he would be far away.”
