Shay Logan is next on Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes’s list of priorities after Russell Anderson, Barry Robson and Nicky Low signed new one-year deals with the club yesterday.
Brentford defender Logan has impressed in his loan spell at Pittodrie and McInnes wants to make his stay a permanent one.
He said: “Shay has indicated he would like to be here but it has to be within the parameters we work within here.
“We think Shay in certain games brought a real level of performance. There were others when he didn’t quite get there but we’d like to have him here and we are doing all we can to make that happen.”
McInnes is pleased to have retained the services of veterans Anderson and Robson, and 22-year-old Low for next season.
He said: “Russell and Barry have been doing all they can to be part of things here and that’s the attitude I want to see at the club. It’s great to secure both as they have both earned the right to be here.
“Both players, regardless of age, have a lot to contribute. Barry’s contribution was a bit stop-start at the beginning of the season due to injury but when he is in the team you can see the influence he has and we are fortunate to have someone of his ability and mentality.
“He takes real pride in his fitness and performance and if he can replicate what he has given us he will have a big part to play.
“A lot has been said about Russell and how we pleased we are to have him as a successful Aberdeen captain. He is tried and trusted for me and has brought a level of performance I need.”
On Low, McInnes added: “Nicky is one I’ve said before is an infectious character. I love his enthusiasm and his confidence to back himself at becoming a regular.
“He loves being here and it’s great to see him play an important part, none more so than the cup final.
“I’ve given him another year to try to force his way into the team but he has a lot going for him and if he continues to work hard he can improve on his appearances next season.”
