French goalkeeper Nicolas Pistol has been given a fortnight to earn a contract with the Dons.
The 19-year-old kept a clean sheet for Aberdeen’s under-20s side in Tuesday’s 1-0 win against Forres Mechanics in Graeme Grant’s testimonial match.
Pistol, a product of the Manchester International Football Academy, was given a trial with the Dons after injury to under-20 goalkeepers
Robbie Mutch and David Craddock.
Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes said: “Nicolas has been training with Manchester City and we have brought him up to
have a look at him as we have had a couple of injuries.
“We have been a bit stretched with Robbie and David injured, Danny Rogers out on loan and Danny Ward away on international duty with Wales.
“Nicolas will be with us for a couple of weeks and will work closely with Gordon Marshall. With Robbie and David injured, we might look at bringing in a goalkeeper on a short-term deal.
The Dons manager believes the international break has been a boon for his players, who had a short summer break because of the club’s Europa League commitments.
McInnes added: “What we do during an international break is always a bit of dilemma. We are mindful the players were back really early for the European campaign. We have got to look after them so they got a few days off last week but this has been a normal working week ahead of the Hamilton game. It is better having an international break on the back of a win. But now the full focus is on getting ready for Sunday’s match.”
