Scott Boyd backs Dons to return to top form… Just not this weekend

Scott Boyd has been with County since 2007.

Ross County defender Scott Boyd believes it is only a matter of time before Aberdeen rediscover the form that took them to the top of the Scottish Premiership – but he hopes their below-par run continues this weekend.

The Staggies are looking forward to tomorrow’s meeting at Pittodrie with renewed optimism after ending a run of three league defeats with a 3-0 success against Motherwell.

They will be eager to pile further misery on Derek McInnes’ team that has won only once in eight matches but Boyd knows it will be tough to emulate last month’s 2-0 victory against the Dons at Dingwall.

The 29-year-old said: “We know Aberdeen are still a really good side with lots of quality and strength in depth.

“We did well against them a few weeks ago, so we know if we play well we can get the result. We will have to be at our best to get something.

“The way we performed at the weekend against Motherwell was great.

“It gives us confidence going to Pittodrie but we are under no illusions about how good a side they are.

“We saw that at the start of the season when they won eight in a row. They have had a tough patch but we have had the same recently.”

The Staggies are sitting fifth in the table and look capable of challenging for a European qualification place this season.

It is a major upturn in fortunes from last season when only a stunning purple patch towards the end of the season helped the Dingwall men avoid relegation.

But Boyd says the Ross County squad know there is plenty of work left to do.

He added: “The league is so tight.

“Partick Thistle won at the weekend and now there is not that many points between the teams.

“I don’t think any team in this league can get too carried away with themselves.

“We have had a strong start and we are delighted to be where we are. But at the same time we know nothing is done yet.

“We still have a long way to go and a lot of football left to play. We just need to make sure we are at our best so we don’t slide down the league.”
