Ross County captain Andrew Davies accepted the Staggies paid the price for not taking their chances in the 3-1 loss to Aberdeen at Pittodrie on Saturday.
Craig Curran gave the visitors a well-earned half-time lead after a commanding first-half display against a lacklustre home side.
But Derek McInnes’ side came roaring back in the second half with goals from Adam Rooney, Jonny Hayes and Niall McGinn to move back to second in the Scottish Premiership.
Former Bradford City player Davies bemoaned their first-half dominance which cost them a second away win of the season.
He said: “It was frustrating because we played so well in the first half.
“They upped the pace in the second half and we didn’t deal with it.
“We lost our individual contests, so, overall, it was very disappointing.
“We had two or three chances in the first half and if we had taken them it would have been a completely different game.
“That seems to be the story of how we are playing. We are doing so well and creating lots of chances but we haven’t been finishing teams off.
“But we will go again. It was a frustrating day but it is a long season and we will pick up points along the way.”
It took the Dons only eight minutes into the second half to regain the initiative, with Rooney netting his 10th goal of the season before Jonny Hayes scored a fortuitous second when his attempted cross found the back of the net.
Niall McGinn rounded off a fine individual display by netting the third with 10 minutes to go.
Davies said: “We expected Aberdeen to come out strongly after the break. We had to stick to what we were doing, but we didn’t.
“If we had kept playing the way we were in first half we could have matched what they threw at us.
“It is disappointing but we just have to put it behind us.”
The result means County drop to sixth in the Scottish Premiership, a point behind Hamilton Accies, who hit back from behind to defeat Dundee United 2-1.
