Aberdeen midfielder Jonny Hayes knows the Dons have to shake off their Jekyll and Hyde character if they are to mount a challenge at the top of the table.
The Dons were booed off by their own supporters at half-time on Saturday after trailing Ross County 1-0 but a strong second-half showing ensured they ran out 3-1 winners to return to second place in the Scottish Premiership.
Hayes was pleased to get back to winning ways after a draw at Hamilton in the previous game but knows his team has to get back to performing well consistently.
He said: “It was Jekyll and Hyde from us when you look at the two halves.
“On our day this team can beat anybody but there have been games where we haven’t been at our best. As individuals we haven’t performed and as a team we haven’t been good enough.
“There was a realisation at half-time that the first half was sloppy and we hadn’t done ourselves justice. The manager gave a talk at half-time and a few things hit home. Our response in the second half was strong and we looked back to our best by winning second balls and getting the ball to our attacking players and allowing them to play.”
Hayes hopes the win can be the catalyst for another sequence of victories from his team but insists his side cannot look any further than Saturday’s trip to Dens Park to face Dundee.
He said: “We can take confidence from coming back from a goal down but it is hard to say whether this will be a turning point or not. We beat Dundee United comfortably then struggled at Hamilton.
“We’re in a good position in the league and we have to try to build on it. We are there to be shot down. People treat us as a scalp but we haven’t done ourselves justice by showing how good we can be at times.”
Saturday’s game swung in Aberdeen’s favour after two goals in a minute from the Dons, with Hayes’ goal putting the Dons in control.
The Irishman, however, was quick to admit his goal had more than a touch of good fortune about it.
When asked if he meant to score from wide left, he said: “No but it is amazing how many people believe I did.
“I was trying to hang the ball up and the same thing happened at Hamilton last week when I hit the crossbar, but I’ll take them every day of the week. People obviously hold me in high regard if they think I meant it.”
